If you run a MyListing directory and you’ve been hand-rolling a booking flow with contact-form-7, gravity forms, or worse — telling visitors to email each provider — this is the practical guide to wiring up a real booking system on MyListing in under 30 minutes. No glue code, no compromises on the listing experience your visitors expect.

MyBookaro Lite is the only booking plugin built native to MyListing. The “Book now” button slots into the listing sidebar through MyListing’s official hook (mylisting/single/sidebar/actions), the repeater services field maps automatically into bookable services, and the lane-aware setup wizard inherits your existing MyListing configuration. The result: a directory-aware booking flow that doesn’t fight the theme.

What you need before you start

        • WordPress 6.0+ on PHP 8.1+
        • MyListing theme active (any version from 2.6 onward)
        • At least one published listing with the standard “Services” repeater field configured (Lite uses it; if you don’t have services on the listing, MyBookaro falls back to a single default service)
        • Admin access to install plugins (the same access you used to install MyListing)

Step 1 — Install MyBookaro Lite

Go to Plugins → Add New, search for MyBookaro, install and activate. The plugin is free on the WordPress.org marketplace; no account, no credit card. On activation, the welcome screen offers a guided setup wizard — accept it. The wizard detects MyListing on its own and skips straight to lane-specific questions, so you don’t have to manually pick “MyListing Directory” from a dropdown.

Step 2 — Run the lane-aware Setup Wizard

The MyListing lane asks four questions:

        • Provider source — confirm that listings are your providers (default). If your site uses a different CPT for providers, the wizard switches you to the Generic Directory lane instead.
        • Services source — choose between the per-listing repeater (most common — each listing has its own services), an admin-managed catalog (one global service list, applied to all listings), or hybrid mode.
        • Placement strategy — where the “Book now” button shows. Default is “sidebar actions slot” (the column to the right of the listing on desktop). You can switch to “inline above content” or “modal on click” later from settings.
        • Approval mode — request-to-book (provider approves each booking) or instant-book (booking confirmed on submission). Most MyListing sites use request-to-book because the provider may not own the listing 24/7.

The wizard validates each step against your live MyListing config. If something doesn’t fit — for example, your listings don’t have a Services repeater configured — the wizard tells you exactly which MyListing field needs a value before booking can work.

Step 3 — Confirm the booking button appears

Open any published listing on the frontend. In the sidebar, between MyListing’s default “Claim listing” / “Report” buttons, you should now see a primary-styled Book now button. Click it. A modal opens with:

        • A service dropdown populated from the listing’s Services repeater (or your admin catalog, depending on what you picked in step 2)
        • A date picker that respects the provider’s availability rules
        • A time-slot grid that updates when a service is selected (because different services can have different durations)
        • A request form with name, email, optional phone, and a notes field

Submit a test booking from a different browser session (so you’re not the provider). The booking lands in MyBookaro → Bookings in wp-admin, and the listing owner receives an email at the address on their MyListing profile.

Step 4 — Configure provider availability

Each listing owner manages their own availability through the provider dashboard (shipped with Lite, no Pro upgrade needed). They access it through the same dashboard menu MyListing already gives them — under a new “Bookings” tab. From there they set:

        • Weekly availability — which days, which hours
        • Date exceptions — blackout dates for vacations, plus per-date overrides
        • Auto-approval rules — instant-book for repeat customers, request-to-book for new ones
        • Booking statuses they want to receive email notifications for

Visitors see real availability — if the provider has Tuesday blocked and Wednesday’s afternoon slots are taken, the time-slot grid greys those out. No “we’ll get back to you” guesswork.

What about payments, calendar sync, and reminders?

Lite covers the full request-to-book flow — booking submission, provider approval, email notifications, dashboards. MyBookaro Pro adds the operational layer: WooCommerce-powered payments through Stripe, two-way Google Calendar + iCal sync, SMS reminders via Twilio, in-thread booking chat, staff workflows, and per-provider reports. If you don’t need any of those on day one, ship Lite — you can unlock Pro later without touching your booking data.

        Common pitfalls

        • “Book now” button doesn’t appear. MyListing has a feature called “sidebar actions” that some child themes disable. Check MyBookaro → System Status — the “MyListing sidebar hook” diagnostic flags this with a red light and a one-line fix.
        • Services dropdown is empty. The listing doesn’t have anything in its Services repeater. Either add services to the listing through the MyListing editor, or switch services source to “admin catalog” in MyBookaro settings.
        • Provider doesn’t get notification emails. The listing owner’s email isn’t set in MyListing’s user profile. Check the listing’s “Owner” field — if it points to a user with no email or an unverified email, MyBookaro can’t reach them.
        • Visitors see times the provider is actually busy. Provider hasn’t configured availability yet. Defaults to “available all the time”, which is rarely correct. The Setup Wizard prompts each provider with a one-page form on their first dashboard visit.

        FAQ

Does this break MyListing’s existing claim / report / favourite buttons?

No. MyBookaro adds a sibling button in the same sidebar actions slot. MyListing’s native buttons keep working unchanged.

Does it work with MyListing’s WC Memberships / Paid Listings extensions?

Yes — both are read-only for booking. MyBookaro doesn’t interfere with the membership gate; it just respects which listings the visitor can see.

Can a single listing have multiple providers each with their own schedule?

Yes, through Pro’s Staff workflows. A “listing” becomes a venue or studio; “staff” become individual bookable providers attached to that listing. See the separate multi-provider guide for the full setup.

Can I migrate existing manual bookings from spreadsheets?

Yes — MyBookaro accepts a CSV import. Map columns to the standard fields (provider, customer, service, start, end, status) and the import creates real booking records that count toward provider availability.

Try it on your MyListing site

Install MyBookaro from WordPress.org on a staging copy of your MyListing site, run the wizard, click “Book now” on a real listing. If the booking flow doesn’t fit your directory model out of the box, the Setup Wizard says so before you’ve spent any real time on configuration.
